Could someone please explain to me what is meant by "Overhaul Mode"?

If it sees a chest it'll get off then back on. As chests lower scores.

What settings do you guys find to be the best so far? I've avoided overhaul for the moment, as I'm trying to gain more chests, but I'm not sure as to whether this is working the best so far.
