update v3!
erik has achieved success by editing his videos in Windows Movie Maker before uploading them.
this is not the most efficient method though... does anyone know a better way?Last edited by erik; 08-01-2017, 03:42 AM.

update v4!
erik has tried using CBR rate control w/ 3000 bitrate opposed to previous CQP.
as you can see, youtube still hates me. :c

update v5!
erik has now tried using a bicubic 16-sample downscaling opposed to the previous lanczos 32-sample thingy.
as you can see, I have no clue what I'm doing.
P.S. - Uploading any of these through Windows Movie Maker makes them HD... I have no clue why.Last edited by erik; 08-01-2017, 03:32 PM.

Final update!
Apparently there is no possible way to upload YouTube videos in HD unless their resolution matches the quality you are looking to upload.
For example, a 1080p YouTube Puzzle Pirates video requires (at minimum) a recorded resolution of 1440x1080p to be uploaded to YouTube in 1080p.
Without rescaling a YPP video, there is no possible way to achieve HD quality (since YouTube CBA to render your videos).
The above was done with rescaling to 1440x1080p, which is the highest quality I have achieved so far.
Thank you to anyone that has tried to help me over Skype/etc. <3
